Jun 19, 2012 Alt-Tab.always. cycles Mac apps. (So, obviously, I'd also like my 'option' key work as my Windows key in the VMs.) I've tried setting up keyboard profiles like the one below, and like the one below minus the explicit alt-tab mapping. Neither does what I'd intended them to do. 'Command-Tab' still cycles me into OS X apps when invoked from a VM. May 10, 2010 In gnome with compiz, I have shortcut to go to any of the 8 first desktops (with alt-x for 1alt-tab (wich works a lot like in windows, except for some apps like gimp), plus i can use tabbed navigation in firefox (with ctrl-tab or ctrl+n or with vimperator, use g+n to go to tab n), and I can use window tabs (compiz extension, two.
An easy way to switch between different open applications on Mac OS X is by holding the command key and pressing Tab. But you may have noticed this switches only between open Applications. What if you have more then one open instance/window of the running application? How to you quickly switch between two open Word documents?

To switch between two instances of the same application (between two Preview windows for example) try the “Command + `” combination. It’s the key right above the tab key on the mac keyboard. This allows you to switch between two windows of the same app, and works with most applications.
Another time saving shortcut is “Control + Tab” within a web browser. This allows you to quickly switch between open tabs. Works in Safari, Firefox, and Chrome.
Mac Alt Tab Equivalent
A bit awkward at first, but a real time saver once you get the hang of it.
